Acclimate - Accelerating Climate Action: Navigating Towards a Low-emissions, Climate-resilient Future

The ACCLIMATE project is structured around seven interconnected Work Packages (WPs) that reflect its integrated and transdisciplinary approach. Each WP contributes to developing actionable, science-based climate strategies through co-creation with stakeholders, advanced modelling, and in-depth policy analysis. Equity and gender are embedded across all WPs to ensure the project’s outputs are not only scientifically sound but also socially responsive and widely applicable.

Acclimate - Accelerating Climate Action: Navigating Towards a Low-emissions, Climate-resilient Future

This work package ensures that ACCLIMATE’s research is grounded in real-world policy processes. It coordinates two main engagement formats: national stakeholder dialogues in partner countries, and international sectoral conversations focused on five key sectors. These co-creation processes are designed to enhance knowledge exchange, ensure policy relevance, and build ownership of the project’s findings.

WP2 systematically evaluates current Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), long-term strategies and climate policies in partner countries. The analysis focuses on their adequacy, feasibility, and fairness, providing the evidence base for improved national climate strategies and informing subsequent pathway development.

This work package supports partner countries in developing enhanced national low-emission and climate-resilient pathways. It strengthens modelling capacity, especially in low- and middle-income countries, and ensures that national pathways are grounded in both local realities and global benchmarks. WP3 also facilitates cross-country learning and comparison.

WP4 develops a new generation of global and sectoral mitigation pathways that are aligned with the Paris Agreement and informed by sector-specific dynamics. These pathways integrate non-CO₂ emissions, land use, and climate impacts, and explore trade-offs and synergies with broader sustainable development goals. Insights from national pathways and sectoral dialogues are used to ensure realism and relevance.

WP5 analyses how international mechanisms, such as the Global Stocktake (GST), international cooperative initiatives, and EU external policies, can support stronger climate action. It assesses the effectiveness of current multilateral processes and offers recommendations for improving transparency, coordination, and ambition in global climate governance.

This work package ensures broad visibility and uptake of ACCLIMATE’s results. It translates technical findings into accessible outputs, including policy briefs, visual media, and stakeholder-targeted materials. WP6 also coordinates policy dialogues, project branding, and outreach through conferences, social media, and the I2AM PARIS modelling platform.

WP7 oversees the administrative, technical, and strategic coordination of the project. It ensures timely delivery of results, financial and ethical compliance, and fosters collaboration among all partners. WP7 also ensures that gender and diversity considerations are integrated across the project.
